14/3/2024 The start of the season sneaks closerWAVL training is in full swing with SLR, Division 1 and Division 1 Reserves teams getting ready to start their seasons on 7 April. With 18 games this season for those teams it is shaping up to be a big season. Divisions 2 and below have a delayed start in May so a bit of extra training time to really fine tune those skills.
Uniform orders have been sent with a new design for 2024. A lot of people have been asking for pictures and details, but you will all just have to wait! We can let you know that we have been working closely with a local artist to prepare a design that speaks to the values of the club and tells a story of how we got here. A little sneaky peak for the fans included below. In addition to the new uniforms, we are bringing out a new range of merch in 2024. We are talking hats, beanies, sports bags, stickers, and more. Brent (aka Adonis) has been working hard with suppliers to get these for the club so keep an eye out for these in the next few months. WAVLJ nominations are the next priority for the club. We currently work with 3 schools; Scotch, Iona and MLC, and had 10 teams in the comp last year. We are always looking for enthusiastic and engaged coaches to help out with training and games. The new generation of volleyballers has been what has seen this club thrive over the last 4 years and ensure that we can continue to be in the WAVL competition. If you are interested in coaching people get in touch. These positions are paid and a great way to pick up a few extra dollars. Lastly, Club Opening is set for Friday 5 April at The Grosvener in East Perth. "The G" is a major sponsor of the club and we love supporting their business with events at their lovely establishment. Keep an eye out on socials for more details as we get closer to the date. After 4 years of services as President, Kev has decided to step down to focus on his coaching and more importantly to free up some time to plan his upcoming wedding. His commitment and dedication to Freo has seen the club expand significantly with:
But don't worry, Kev will still be around as head coach for the Mens SLR team and to give some sub-par sets playing for the Mens Div 1 team. In his place, we welcome incoming President Matthew Andrews. Matt has been at the club since 2018 (the club was formed in 2017) as a player and has been heavily involved in the committee since 2020. With coaching successes in 2021 and 2022 and successful event coordination of various pub crawls, camps, opening nights and home rounds, Matt is well placed to take over Presidential responsibilities. He is supported by previous Vice President Brent Gauci and new co/Vice President Nic Moody. The full list of new committee members and the AGM minutes are
The inaugural social beach competition has been announced for Fremantle Fury Volleyball Club. In an effort to expand the club and to continue providing opportunities to the community to participate in the sport, FVC is expanding into the beach volleyball world. Expanding on success from last summer where the newly purchased beach net got an absolute workout at Leighton both mornings and evenings, the club has taken on the opportunity to run a social league at VWA's beach courts located at the Cockburn CRC in Yangebup.
The season will include 12 regular season games on a Thursday evening starting from 26 October 2023, with a finals on 1 February 2024. FVC is also aiming to run a number of one-off events throughout the summer such as a 4-a-side mixed competition and a big cash prize event. Registrations for the 2023/24 season are now open.
